The Simpsons and Their Astonishing Prediction
From Springfield to the Oval Office: The iconic series "The Simpsons" predicted Kamala Harris’s rise to the presidency as early as 2000.
Twenty-four years ago, "The Simpsons" depicted Kamala Harris as President of the United States. This episode is now gaining attention because Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he will not seek a second term, endorsing his vice president Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming November election.
On the social media platform X, users have highlighted an episode from 2000 where Lisa Simpson is shown as President, wearing a purple suit strikingly similar to the one Kamala Harris wore at Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021.
Coincidence or Vision?
One user summarized the meme: “The ‘Simpsons’ have done it again! Here’s Lisa Simpson as the first female President of the USA from Season 11, Episode 17 (2000), talking about how the country is in ruins after President Trump. And next to her is Kamala Harris, wearing the same outfit at Biden’s inauguration.”
At Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, 2021, Kamala Harris, as the first female and first Black Vice President, wore a purple ensemble designed by Christopher John Rogers, paired with Sergio Hudson shoes and a Wilfredo Rosado pearl necklace.
The showrunner of the iconic series, Al Jean, recently shared the political prediction on his X account with the comment: “The ‘Simpsons’ prediction: Proud to be a part of it.”
Not the Only Accurate Prediction
In the episode "Bart to the Future," Lisa Simpson is elected as Donald Trump’s successor as U.S. President—a prediction made by the show in 2000. TV writer Dan Greaney explained to "The Hollywood Reporter" in 2016 how this prophetic Trump prediction came about. “It was a warning to America,” he said. The Trump presidency “was the last stop before hitting rock bottom. We chose it because it fit a vision of a completely out-of-control America.”
In "Bart to the Future," the Simpson family visits a Native American casino that Bart, being too young, is not allowed to enter. He then imagines the future 30 years ahead: Lisa becomes President after Donald Trump’s term. As President, Lisa notes in the episode: “As you know, we inherited a significant budget deficit from President Trump.”
